MEET TOBY TAYLOR

Toby Taylor is a longtime Chaffee County resident, builder, and business owner who has spent nearly three decades building a life and a career in the community he calls home.

Toby and his wife, Regina, have been married for more than 35 years and moved to Salida in 1995. They raised their two sons here, with their youngest born at the original Salida hospital. Today, their family continues to live, work, and invest in Chaffee County.

Toby has spent most of his career in construction and real estate. His work includes residential and commercial projects throughout the county, including South Main, Game Trail, the relocation of Amica’s and Su Casa, additions to the hospital, and construction of the new Salida High School.

As the owner of Colorado ICF Builders, Toby has built homes throughout the area and worked closely with local subcontractors, suppliers, real estate professionals, and the county building department. That hands-on experience has given him a practical understanding of what it takes to build and do business in Chaffee County.

Toby and his family also designed, built, and operate one of the county’s largest storage facilities. What started as a family venture has grown into a multi-generational local business spanning more than 6.5 acres. When presented with an opportunity to sell, the Taylor family chose to keep the business locally owned.

WHY TOBY IS RUNNING

After decades of working in construction, housing, and business in Chaffee County, Toby has seen firsthand how increasing regulations, rising costs, and rapid policy changes are affecting local families, businesses, and the future of the community.

He believes many current policies, particularly building codes, land use regulations, and property taxes, are making it increasingly difficult for residents to afford to live and work in Chaffee County.

Toby is especially concerned about:

  • Overly complex and burdensome land use regulations

  • State-mandated building codes that drive up housing costs

  • A lack of clarity and consistency in planning and zoning

  • Property tax increases that are pricing residents, especially seniors, out of their homes

He has also seen growing frustration from community members who feel their voices are not being heard in county decisions.
